High production vertical honing systems

Designed for high-production environments, SV vertical honing systems can be tailored to specific needs with multiple columns, air gaging, brushing, and other options.

The servo spindle motor provides power for honing tough aerospace alloys and large-diameter aircraft components. Advanced servo stroke control enables precise honing of landing gear and hydraulic components, producing straighter and rounder bores. Synchronized servo stroke and spindle functions maintain a consistent crosshatch finish throughout the bore, essential for optimal sealing and lubrication in aircraft hydraulic components.

The Sunnen 2 control bore profile display allows real-time monitoring of bore straightness during the cycle, critical for maintaining tight tolerances. Sunnen writes its own machine code, providing flexible and modular machine designs for tailoring the honing process to specific aerospace applications.

SV35, SV3000 [see photo], SV3100, SV3400, and SV3500 series feature Beckhoff electronics, and a multi-axis handwheel helps reduce setup time and increase machine uptime.

SV systems offer an optional automation interface integrating part-handling systems for 24/7 operation. An optional post-process gaging system enables data collection and machine process control to sub-micron tolerances.

Tool balancer

»toolBalancer 550«

The »toolBalancer« can increase process reliability and the quality of work pieces, reduce machine maintenance costs, and prevent machine failures. Having optimally and precisely balanced tools achieves longer tool life, a longer spindle running time, and a better surface quality of parts.

The balancing adapter with center offset is designed with a two-point contact and a pressure element, enabling a large and more measurable sensor signal for highly precise balancing results.

Two versions are available: »toolBalancer 550« has a maximum tool diameter of 18.9" (480mm) and maximum tool length of 21.6" (550mm); »toolBalancer 750« has a maximum tool diameter of 18.9" and maximum tool length of 29.5" (750mm). Both offer measuring accuracy of <0.4gmm.

Multi-blade monobloc reamers

DIATOOL monobloc multi-blade reamers produce precision bores with higher feed rates, tighter bore tolerances, and reduced cycle times compared to single-point tools. Featuring a multi-blade design with unequal cutting edge spacing, the reamers produce extremely round and cylindrical bores up to 150% faster than conventional reamers. Standard solid and expandable designs are available in diameters from 5.6mm to 60.599mm (0.22" to 2.386"); custom designs to 100.599mm (3.961") in diameter, in short or long shank versions, with or without internal coolant supply. A simple expansion adjustment (tightening a conical screw) maintains precise bore sizes. Materials and coatings can be tailored to optimize specific boring applications.

The monoblock reamers’ ability to be re-tipped (a minimum of 10x if tool body is kept in good condition) can reduce tooling cost, as re-tipped blades last as long as new blades.
