The Variaxis i-300 simultaneous 5-axis vertical machining center, designed for automated small- to medium-size part-processing operations, offers more flexibility and efficiency with the high- capacity auto work changer (AWC).
The machine comes standard with a multiple drum tool storage system for up to 145 tools, while the 32 position AWC accommodates workpieces up to 13.779" in diameter, 12.401" high, and weighing up to 135 lb. This combination permits continuous unmanned operation and single-setup processing. Shops can expand the AWC and tool storage capacities to 40 positions and 505 tools.
While boosting this large capacity, the machine has a significantly smaller footprint due to its stacking 30-tool drum magazines.
At the Singapore Airshow, Turkish Airlines officials signed an agreement for a 15-year Pratt & Whitney EngineWise fleet management program. The agreement will cover Turkish Airlines' future fleet of 92 A321neo aircraft powered by the Pratt & Whitney Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines.
Boeing nets nearly $1B in services orders at Singapore Airshow
Boeing received services orders valued at more than $900 million at the recent Singapore Airshow.
Stan Deal, president and CEO of Boeing Global Services, says, “Predicted growth for aerospace services in the Asia Pacific brings opportunities to partner with local industry to understand the region’s greatest needs, invest in new capabilities to meet those needs, and then bring them to market quickly.”
The agreements include parts; engineering, modifications, and maintenance; digital aviation and analytics; and training and professional services.
PPG Pro-Seal 815M aerospace sealant clear liquid is sprayed onto freshly applied polysulfide aerospace sealant to improve aesthetics and cut surface cure time. The sealant, which comes ready to use in a non-aerosol recyclable pump bottle, is sprayed in a light mist onto wet sealant. The spray helps break the surface tension of the wet sealant, allowing for easier smoothing and fairing to achieve final required dimensions and optimal appearance. It cures the surface of the sealant to a tack-free state in 2 to 3 hours at 25°C (77°F), compared to the 6 to 40 hours typically required for untreated sealant to obtain the same condition.
GE Aviation (GE) and SIA Engineering Co. Ltd. (SIAEC) are forming an engine overhaul joint venture based in Singapore. SIAEC is a major provider of aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services in Asia-Pacific.
GE will hold a 51% equity stake in the joint venture, with SIAEC holding the remaining 49%.
SIAEC CEO Png Kim Chiang says, “The joint venture will leverage the joint strengths of GE’s technical knowhow and SIAEC’s MRO experience, to offer high quality and competitive maintenance solutions for GE engines.”
GE Aviation Services President and CEO Jean M. Lydon-Rodgers says, “The new joint venture will ensure our GE90 and GE9X operators have access to high-quality maintenance, repair, and overhaul capabilities.”
The GE90 engine powers the Boeing 777-300ER and 777-200LR, and the GE9X engine is the sole engine selection for the Boeing 777X aircraft. The HyperConnect machine networking app facilitates machine-to-machine and machine-to-PC virtual connectivity.
A suite of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) applications for electrical discharge machines (EDMs) enhances user experience and efficiency and reduces machine downtime. Available on all Makino EDMs equipped with Hyper-i control systems, HyperConnect allowing monitoring and control of EDM processes from PCs, smart devices, or other Hyper-i control systems on the network.
The HyperConnect suite boasts EDM mail, machine viewer, machine-to-machine viewer, and PC viewer, allowing personnel to monitor, plan, and troubleshoot EDM operations. EDM Mail supports unattended operation, while the PC Viewer can eliminate non-production motion.
An electro-mechanical system updates E-Fenar measuring systems, electro-mechanical slides, and grinding tool arms managed by the Marposs BLÚ single cable integrated control system.
Electro-mechanical solutions offer better control of the process and reduce maintenance time and costs. They also can run at higher rates to better control acceleration/deceleration and consistent speed rates. An electric system eliminates piping, hoses, filters, and most lubricant for ease of maintenance.
Positioning can be optimized through the E-Fenar control, and the gage can conduct several checks on a part without requiring a full stroke to clear.

The CoroMill Plura HFS range comprises two end mill families optimized for titanium alloys, and one for nickel alloys. For titanium, a solid version supports normal chip evacuation, and an internal coolant version with a new cooling booster optimizes swarf and temperature control.
End mills for titanium are available in GC1745 grade, based on a tough, fine-grained, cemented-carbide substrate with sharp, controlled edges for tough milling operations. A multi-layer coating that contains silicon provides wear resistance and low thermal conductivity. The cutters’ geometry is based on a 6-flute concept with no center cut and uneven tooth pitch.
For nickel alloys, grade GC1710 is deployed, featuring sharp, controlled cutting edges. A hard, wear-resistant, fine-grained substrate is optimized to resist high working loads when machining hard, highly adhesive, work-hardened materials. A coating produced with innovative high-power impulse magnetron sputtering (HIPIMS) technology also offers adhesion-reducing properties to avoid the formation of built-up edge (BUE) and increase tool life.
Renegade Model TLT Dual 1615 Tumbler Parts Washers feature a rotating tumbler operation for batches of small machined parts, fasteners, components, bolts, and nuts.
The solvent-free system cleans small parts and components covered with grease, oil, or lubricants. The SR-F series laser cutting machine features a 3.0m x 1.5m footprint. The SR-F laser is available in 2kW and 3kW. The two-dimensional fiber laser processing system comes standard with a fiber laser resonator, a processing head, and a safety cover. It also includes the Mitsubishi 700 series control with 64-bit numeric control.
